16 Days of Activism

Domestic abuse is a scourge on our community.

One in four women in the United Kingdom will experience domestic abuse or violence in their lifetime, and those who do are significantly more likely to develop serious, long-term illnesses and die prematurely.

Domestic abuse is any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members.

Domestic abuse includes, but is not limited to, Psychological abuse, Physical abuse, Emotional abuse, Sexual abuse and Financial abuse. Globally, estimates suggest that at least one-third of women and girls have been victims of gender-based violence which includes rape.

This short clip is a reminder that the scourge of domestic abuse is an everyday occurrence for many women, and health care professionals should continue to identify and respond to victims beyond the #16DaysofActivism
