After our 2018 collaboration with ActionAid on the social media series celebrating their humanitarian heroes, they invited us back the following year to make a hand-drawn animation for them about how they support girls living in poverty.

Around 32 million girls around the world drop out of school – and many of them are forced into early marriages. ActionAid girls’ clubs help girls stay in school, preventing child marriage and enabling them to reach their full potential.

As the voiceover was from the perspective of a nine-year-old girl we wanted the artwork to look like the narrator was drawing out her story. We collaborated with a young person called Gabriella to film a few bits with her hands whilst the rest was done in stop motion by Isolde drawing with her left hand - she normally draws with her right :)

Woven Ink were great to work with. Isolde and Jess immediately understood what we were looking to create, and worked to tight deadlines to bring our animation to life. Throughout the process they supplied different options and alternatives, and quickly adapted to our feedback. We’re really happy with the result, and would certainly recommend working with them.
