We came across Sarah Corbett’s work back in 2013, whilst capturing the visual minutes for a TEDxBrixton event. She spoke of the concept of Craftivism, The Craftivist Collective, her #GentleProtest approach, and the need to sometimes be quiet and gentle in spaces of activism.
We continued to follow her work over the years, and in early 2020, we got in touch to see if she’d be interested in us working with her to animate the concepts of her work.
Craftivism isn’t intended to replace other, more traditional forms of protest and activism, but if there’s time and space for the loud and fast, there’s also time for the quiet and slow.
The animation shares a summary of what the Craftivist Collective can do to help individuals, groups and organisations around the world do effective gentle craftivism to help change hearts, minds, policies and laws in a kind, creative and quiet way using crafts. Gentle craftivism is for everyone from skilled crafters to burnt-out activists, introverts, highly sensitive people, people struggling with anxiety and those people who want to challenge injustice in the world but don’t know what to do, where to start or how to prioritise their energies and time.
